Xaverine Bates
Starting her life full of music, Xaverine learnt the piano from an
early age as well as singing and becoming an accomplished cellist.
Having studied Anthropology & Philosophy, she worked and travelled
in Poland, Israel, Egypt, Nepal, Greece, Tanzania and India and
lived and worked as a teacher in Mexico for 2 years. She qualified
as a primary school teacher on the Fast-Track teaching scheme and
worked as Art Coordinator at a local primary school where she lead
art workshops such as the Virtual Herbarium project, an art-internet
project which linked local children in St. Leonards with those in
Talimi Haq school for street children in Kolkata, India. She
co-founded the Kids' Factory with Naima Nouidjem, a not-for-profit
organisation offering free art workshops to children from black &
minority ethnic backgrounds & low-income families in Hastings & St.
Leonards. Xaverine has lived in St. Leonards for five years and is
studying Fine Art at Hastings College as well as working with the
English as an Additional Language service as a teacher of primary
children. Xaverine is committed to educating children in the wealth
of knowledge and understanding available through the arts as well as
sustaining a vibrant and diverse community which celebrates
tolerance, understanding and peaceful communication.
