CCDN can be described as a 2nd Tier mbrella organisation for voluntary
and community organisations that work for and with communities of diverse
ethnicities, cultures & faiths.
We provide information, training, development support, networking
opportunities and policy consultation to organisations working to tackle
inequalities, promoting cultural diversity & community cohesion and would
like to stress that in our opinion the complex nature of diversity means
that no one infrastructure
body (at any level) will be able to meet all the needs of one organisation –
particularly those
organisations that serve the needs of diverse communities. Hence we are keen
to work develop viable partnership with other organisations, as long as our
clear aims & objectives, Core values & Quality Standards can be upheld.
We agree with the Governments Active Community Unit that ‘the deep rooted
disadvantage faced by BME communities and organisations demands continued
targeted support – not least in assisting the sector
respond to new challenges and changing demographics.’
We welcome the commitment by the Active Community Unit to supporting and
building up a strong
infrastructure network throughout England and CCDN has raised various
proposals and suggestions on ways to strengthen specialist voluntary sector
infrastructure – particularly to ensure equalities and social inclusion
issues are seen as a key component to any strategy regarding the BME
voluntary sector infrastructure capacity building in East Sussex.
Please read our response to the CHANGE UP Consultation Process.
NB: All our documents are formed in consultation with our members –
many of whom use our services in a range of ways.
CCDN is known as an effective agent for social change – adding considerable
value to the Government’s equalities agenda by reaching people from diverse
ethnicities, cultures and faith that are otherwise often inaccessible to
agencies and that fall through the ‘safety net’ on an ongoing basis.
Our Core services meet six areas of specialist infrastructure:
- volunteering
- community development
- rural needs
- black and minority ethnic and other diversity issues
- social and community enterprise
- VCS use of information and communications technology
However, the enormous contributions that CCDN has
made, have not yet been matched with a sustained commitment to funding.
