Chairs Report

In the past year 2007/2008 so much has happened for CCDN. It has been a year of a few challenges, and many triumphs.
The standard of entertainment at the Monthly Bring-a Dish parties, that have run as a regular celebration throughout the year, has been exceptional and diverse, sourcing both local multicultural artists and visiting International artists. The wide range of food and cultural focus themes has been fully representative of, and successfully honoured, the diverse cultural origins of our membership in a truly joyful way.
Our weekly drum and dance family performance group 'GloBang' lead by resident artist and master-drummer Nana Tsiboe has broadened its range to incorporate a community choir with a repertoire of beautiful Ghanaian and Nigerian songs and has been much in demand throughout the year, performing in the Winter Garden Palace in Eastbourne, Warrior Gardens during the St Leonard's Festival, a high profile West Sussex Youth Event, The Rooms, and many other local and regional venues. Look for photos and more details in the separate report.
Children have enjoyed many wonderful creative workshops and learning opportunities both after school, and during holidays , and also this year extending to daytime learning sessions to support those who are school excluded or home educated.
The outreach initiatives have been extensive, and successful engagement of hard to reach communities has been ongoing throughout the year. Please see the features on recent Asylum Seeking and Eastern European Migrant communities’support and inclusion initiatives.
We have worked on many exiting partnership projects including major input into the huge multi agency initiative of the St Leonards Festival including a food stall, an info stall housing a unique exhibition, the official festival decorations and a main stage performance and many other collaborations such as the exiting work with FFT that is profiled separately with impressive outcomes. Many more are in the pipeline-again see the separate reports below.
Business start-ups have continued to be supported with development work and we look forward to receiving more business start up applications.
We would like to clarify to our supporters that the shop displaying Tom Abbass Saal's beautiful shop fittings and 3D signs in London Rd St Leonard's, whilst being representative of his versatility as an artist is no longer however connected with, or affiliated to, CCDN and no longer operates as a not-for-profit community venture.
I would like to thank all the CCDN Board of Directors, who have demonstrated amazing dedication, passion and commitment through triumphs and challenges alike and generously donated their time and resources throughout the year.
I have been honoured to have worked with them all, to serve our community and our appreciative, participative and richly diverse members and their families. Our membership has now expanded to Lewes, Tunbridge Wells, Brighton and London and the International links are growing. I would like to see the year ahead become one where we strengthen and hone our skills, access reliable funding for professional development and
